Hobbies/Interests

Public Media & New Media

Generally interested in all public media affairs, the future of different kind of media, the development of new media and social networks, multimedia on the web and at home, and a lot more…

In the early days I was only interested in the radio business (and it’s still kind of a focus today), and I once thought of becoming a radio dj. But learning to know what kind of job that is for real (besides of knowing people in the business I also worked for the student radio station M94.5 a couple of months…), I decided otherwise, but anyway, at least I did my part with my own webradio HappyRadio.

Music

I love music!
What would be life without it?
I’m listening to Oldies, 70s, 80s (that’s music I grew up with!), and to all kind of contemporary mainstream (Pop, Rock, some HipHop, …). In the 90s I was even into techno and house music (today I prefer only some good dance and house tunes), but I also like some Jazz music (mainly Smooth Jazz), good old R’n'B and Soul, Electronic Chillout, and Lounge music. Last but not least, I also recently started to enjoy classical music, but here I prefer movie themes.

In the 90s I also tried do some DJing and produced some mix tapes which can be listened to here: > > Music Mixes of another century

But there’s also the part of doing music, e.g. playing an instrument (I once learned to play the trumpet and a little bit the piano) and singing. During school I was playing in the school’s BigBand and singing in the choir. Today I just continue to sing.
From 2003 to 2006 I was in the mixed and quite small student choir “Anglistenchor” (now renamed to “Unisono Chor München“). During my time in Vienna from 2006 to 2008 I was in a very similar choir called “VetMedChor” which I really enjoyed (and now miss a lot).
At the moment I’m with a new choir in Munich called “SentiVoces“.

Dancing

During school I started to dance the traditional ballroom dancing (standard/latin) which I continued for quite a while (longer than the most), but at the end didn’t go professional. There was a pause but not very long, then I started to dance again when studying in Munich. Again I stopped after a while and tried to start a new when being in Vienna. There, I found interest in the Salsa dancing and loved to be in this cuban bar Floridita. I had the best teachers for “Salsa Classica” (Jorge Alois) and “Rueda de Casino” (Jorge Morales). But then I had to leave Vienna, and since then I try to find something adequate in Munich. I ended up at Salsa y Corazon of Marion Morena, and here I learned to know a lot knew friends. So I’m still “into it”!

Movies

I love movies, especially mainstream Hollywood productions (but sometimes also alternative films, e.g. the french and some german…). My preferred genres are action, comedy, fantasy, and science fiction. Therefor it’s no wonder that my preferred actors are (in no specific order) Will Smith, Bruce Willis, Johnny Depp, Sean Connery, Matt Damon, Tom Cruise, Denzel Washington, Bill Murray, Tom Hanks, Jim Carrey, Rowan Atkinson, Charlize Theron, Uma Thurman, Jennifer Aniston, Julia Stiles, Franka Potente, and many more…

I love to go to the movies (at least twice a month), but also watch a lot at home on DVD or now even streamed on my Mac Mini acting as media center connected to my big LCD screen. At home I also have some TV series that I loved to watch (but preferably on DVD not on TV!): Friends, Ally McBeal, Buffy, Stargate SG1, and Stargate Atlantis.

Books

Similar to the movies of course my taste in books is also focused on fantasy and science fiction. Currently I’m reading the last of the Eragon trilogy called “Brisingr”.

Sports

Beside of dancing, there is not much time for other sports, but sometimes I even manage to go to the gym once or twice a week (I loved to attend to Tae Bo classes, but currently didn’t manage to go there for a long time). In winter I go skiing and in summer I use the bike all the time and sometimes even do some inline skating. I also love just walking (e.g. in a park) and sometimes even hiking (but it’s very rare that I’m asked to join a group…).
